Without wishing to IxMist in any way, I think it only right to say
that, wherever I go, I do not see such Tar Pavement as is to be
seen in the Lewisham District. Indeed, judging from the letters
I have received asking for information on the subject, the excellence
of the work appears to be patent to those who see it. During the
year several deputations from corporate bodies have visited the
District for the purpose of seeing the Tar Pavement, and I have
had the honor of explaining my system of preparing Tar Pavement
to them. It is a matter of regret to me that, on account of the
increased value of tar and gravel, the cost of laying Tar Pavement
has risen greatly. From the discoveries of German chemists very
valuable commercial products are now obtained from gas tar, which
has increased its value enormously.
