) Gentlemen,
It is with much pleasure I submit for your consideration my
Eighth Annual Report upon work carried out in my department
during the financial year.
HIGHWAYS.
I have prepared the Table below to show the quantities of
Material used in the repair of the Highways during the year:—

There was more material used this year than last, and about
the same as in 1878-4. It must be borne in mind that out of the
above quantities there is at the present time nearly 2000 cubic
yards in stock. There was a smaller quantity of material used
last year on account of some of the contractor's failing to deliver
the full quantities within the specified time; and the consequence
of this was that the residue of last year's material and the whole
