cast upon the local authority in order that such works, which
eventually become public, should be so constructed in regard
to levels and materials that a uniformity of system may be
maintained, as:—
Earl Dartmouth Estate, Rushey Green. Thicket Road, Penge.
Park Hill, Dartmouth Park.
Drysdale Road, Loats-pit. Mount Ash Road, Syden-ham
Mayow Road, Perry Vale.
Diversion by Thornford Road. Howard Road, Silver Dale.
SANITARY.
The Quaggy, near the Plough, having become unpleasant
by the deposit of mud carried back by the back-waters from
the river Ravensbourne, it was determined to concrete the
same in the covered way under the road, and, so much as
possible, between the last named point and the junction of
the river Ravensbourne, the cost of which was £50 3s. 6d.
A storm water drain was also constructed at Meadow Croft,
at a cost of £50 18s. 9d., to relieve the Bell Green and
Sydenham Sewer.
Great attention has been paid by the Board during the
year to the Ventilation of the Sewers by means of pipes on
high ground, and the Sewer was connected with the shafts
of Mr. Jerrard's chimney in Loampit Vale; other sites have
been selected, but a general objection is made by the owners
against permitting them on their property.
It was also thought desirable to insist on the private ventilation
of house drains by means of pipes above the roof; in
all application for new houses builders are required to provide
means of ventilation accordingly.
The following table shows the number of houses applied
for to be built and drained.
