and proportionate reductions were made from the parishes abovementioned.
This Board then considered that the time had arrived
for them to make a full investigation into the principles of the
original and amended apportionments, and a Committee of their
body was appointed for the purpose. The conclusions they arrived
at will be found embodied in the memorial to the Metropolitan
Board of Works, appended to this Report. The memorial was presented
by a deputation from this Board, and was referred by the
Metropolitan Board to their Committee of Works and General
Purposes, upon whose Report the apportionment, against which
the memorial appealed, had been based; and the Board have to
congratulate the ratepayers of Lewisham upon the most satisfactory
result, viz., a further report by the Committee, in which they
propose to reduce their apportionment upon this Parish from
£30,526 18s. 2d. to £18,803 1s. 3d. This report has very recently
been confirmed by a large majority of the Metropolitan Board, and
may now be considered as their ultimate decision on the subject.
