taken placc from this cause, and the disease has declined in activity during the last few
days.
A mild form of diarrhoea is prevalent more or less in the whole district.
Lewisham.—The drainage of Church Terrace, and numerous houses at the back, requires
immediate attention. The overflow or soakage from the cesspools attached to the
above-named houses communicates with a ditch connected with the river, the water of
which is hence contaminated with sewage. A sewer is much required here.
Hither Green Lane still requires connecting with the sewer. Some of the houses
here are in a most unhealthy state.
Sydenham.—The drainage of St. Germans Road is occupying the attention of the
inhabitants resident there, as no sewer exists there, and drainage is thus impossible.
This would be a desirable improvement if properly carried out. It is intended to lay
plans before the Board for their approval.
Pigs are still kept in an offensive manner in the Willow Road, and I can bear out the
complaint of Mr. Short as regards this nuisance.
The drainage of houses in High Street is gradually progressing. A block of houses (3
or 4) at the back of the Rock and Fountain are in an offensive state, and also require
draining into the sewer.
Russell Street also requires more efficiently draining.
The gullies near Round Hill are still very offensive.
Penge.—The drainage of the City of London Tavern, Anerley Road, requires
attention.
Also an overflowing cesspool next Coe's, West Kent Park.
Offensive drainage at Mr. Leache's, Laurel Brook, Perry Vale.
Drain from Albion Terrace running by Raglan Street.
Want of drainage and dangerous cesspool at Mr. Wetherall's, near Forester Inn.
The houses at Lower Sydenham require opening into the sewer. No drainage at
present.
