THE BIRTH RATE.
The number of births registered in Lambeth during the year
1892, reaches a total of 9226 cases, 129 more than the number
registered in the previous year.
The registered number of male children exceeds by 278 that of
the female. During the same period in the entire Metropolitan
area 131,535 births are recorded: 67,021 males and 64,514
females.

The birth rate for Lambeth, calculated for the year 1892 is
33.7 per 1000 inhabitants.
The Metropolitan rate for the same period is 30.9 per 1000, the
lowest rate on record; in 1879 it was 35.5 per 1000, and since
