From the results of the analysis and the remarks thereon, it is
evident that the water supplied to the Parish by the Companies
which hold the monopoly of the supply, although cleared, by the
processes of filteration, from all turbidity resulting from the
suspension of organic matter, still retains organic impurity in
solution. This condition is also found, but not to the same extent
when the river is not in flood.
Section 4 of the Metropolis Water Act, 1852, provides that every
Company shall effectually filter all water supplied by it, within the
