REPORT.
To the Vestry of the Hamlet of Mile End Old Town.
Gentlemen,
In laying before you a statement of the various
works carried out under the direction of my department, it is a
regret to me that the funds at your disposal have not enabled
me to execute more paving works.
For some years past your desire has been (and this, doubtless,
a commendable desire) to reduce to the utmost the estimates for
renewals of roads and footways; but it is my duty to warn you
that your renewals of footways, in particular, are not keeping
pace with the wear upon them, and that you will leave to your
successors an accumulation of such work.
