Report of Joint Committee,
Consisting of Churchwardens and Overseers, and Members of
the Vestry appointed to confer on the subject of the
Parish Property, corner of Stepney Green.
Wednesday, 22nd May, 1889.
Your Committee beg to report that they met on the 10th
ult. and 1st inst.
That your Committee had placed before them the books
and evidence in the possession of the Churchwardens and
Overseers with regard to the Parish property at the corner of
Stepney Green, from which it appears that the property was
formerly an engine house, and in 1833 was let on lease to
George Potter at £7 per annum, who then built over the
engine house. The lease referred to will expire on the 29th
inst. The rent has been received by the Churchwardens and
Overseers and paid in aid of the Poor Rate.
The premises front Mile End Road and Stepney Green,
and are a portion of those now occupied by Messrs. Wilkes
& Rich.
That your Committee considered an application from
Messrs. Wilkes & Rich the tenants, for a lease or purchase of
the premises, and also considered other means of disposal of
the property referred to, and resolved to make and do make
the following recommendations for the adoption of your
Board, viz.:
(1) That the Parish property at the corner of Stepney
Green be sold by public auction.
(2) That the amount realized by the sale be paid in aid of
the rates for the relief of the Poor of the Hamlet.
