5 MARCH, 1890.
(3) That your Committee considered a letter of the 12th ult.
(1056), from the London County Council, stating that application
had been made to that Council by Messrs. W. & D. Brown
for permission to erect Bay windows to project three inches,
to nine houses on the South side of Bow Common Lane, as
shown on accompanying plan and your Committee resolved
to recommend—That no objection be offered to the granting
of the application.
(4) That your Committee considered a letter of the 13th ult., from
Mr. J. T. Rossiter, (Solicitor,) on behalf of Mrs. Matilda Banks,
claiming compensation for an alleged accident which occurred
to her on the 8th ult. in King Street, and resolved to recommend—That
your Clerk write Mr. Rossiter denying liability
in the matter, on behalf of your Board.
(5) That your Clerk submitted the following correspondence on
the subject of an improvement at Ben Jonson Road :
" 44, Russell Square, W.C.
"25th February, 1890.
"To the Clerk.
" Mile End Vestry.
" Dear Sir,
"The Limehouse Board of Works have asked the
" County Council to help widen the Stepney Green end
"of Ben Jonson Road, one side of which is in your
"district. I thought the improvement so important, that
"when it was proposed on the Council not to proceed
"with the matter, I had the recommendation referred
" back for further consideration.
"I understand your Vestry has not moved in the
" matter.
"Considering the importance of the improvement to
"what is practically a main route from Mile End Road to
"the Commercial Road, I would ask you to press on your
"Vestry the importance of communicating to the Council
" their wishes in the matter at once.
"Doubtless the Improvement Committee of the
"Council will consider the improvement at once, and if
"your Vestry, as I hope is the case, consider the affair
"of pressing importance, they will let the Council know
" at once their desires on the subject.
"As it may be considered in a certain degree a local
"improvement, I would venture to suggest that your
"Vestry should say what, and if any, how much they are
"willing to contribute to the cost of the improvement.
"Perhaps a quarter might meet the case, but I say this
"without any authority. Your Vestry is the best judge.
"It might be useful if your Vestry were to confer with the
"Limehouse Board of Works.
