resolved— That the Vestiy at its rising do adjourn until this
day fortnight at 7 p.m.
VI. Moved by Mr. Browning seconded by Mr. Richardson and
resolved unanimously— That this Vestry having heard of the
accident which has occurred to Mr. C. McNaught, do hereby
express to him their deep regret and sincere sympathy, and
the hope that he may soon be able to resume his usual avocations.
Moved by Mr. Coker seconded by Mr. Furness and resolved
unanimously— That the Clerk write a suitable letter to
Mr. Upton, expressing the sincere sympathy of the members
of the Vestry with him in the irreparable loss he has sustained
by the death of Mrs. Upton.
VII. The Report of Committee No. 2 was brought up as follows:
To the Vestry of the Hamlet of Mile End Old Town.
Report of Committee No. 2.
For Highways, Paving, Lighting and Watering.
Wednesday, 8th January, 1890.
Your Committee beg to report that they met on Thursday
the 2nd day of January, inst., there being present Messrs.
Loftus, Ockelford, W. A. Kemp, Ludbrook, and Mardorf.
That your Surveyor brought up and read a Report for
which your Committee beg to refer your Board to his Report
Book.
(1) That having regard to the Report of your Surveyor your
Committee resolved to recommend— That a contract be
entered into for the supply of 5,000 feet of 3 inch tooled York
Paving, and that advertisements be issued inviting tenders,
the estimated cost being £135.
(2) That your Surveyor reported that he had received a complaint
from Mr. Bates, of No. 9, Burdett Road, of the damage
done to his business by Mr. Raper, a pawnbroker, who puts
out goods for sale on a blind next his house, and also in the
road.
Your Surveyor also submitted a letter and anonymous post
card as follows:
"187, Mile End Road.
"December 30th, 1889.
"Dear Sir,
"I beg to call your attention to two signboards
"put outside by my neighbour (185, Mile End Road).
"One being a great nuisance to me, completely hiding
"my facia to a person coming East, and also I consider
"them dangerous, they overhanging the footway, and
"only suspended with copper wire.
"Hoping this will receive your kind attention,
"1 am, etc.,

(2) That your Clerk submitted the following Accounts duly certified and approved, which your Committee recommend for payment, viz :
