31 JULY, 1889.
Vestry of the Hamlet of Mile End Old Town.
Vestry Hall, Bancroft Road, Mile End Road, E.
July 24th, 1889.
To the Vestry of the Hamlet of Mile End Old Town.
Gentlemen,
re No. 3, Sampson's Court, Mile End, E.
I have considered the report of the Medical Officer of
Health referred to me at your meeting held on the 10th
day of July, in respect of the house and premises known
as 3, Sampson's Court, under the provisions of the
Artizans and Labourers' Dwellings' Act, 1868.
The complaint contained in the said report of the
Medical Officer of Health is—
That the flooring of the ground floor is several inches
below the street level.
There is not sufficient air space either in the front of
the house or at the back to ensure proper ventilation.
The ground floor rooms have not sufficient light.
The yard at the back is so built in as to prevent a
proper current of air from circulating in the ground
floor rooms.
That there is no room for a proper receptacle for the
dust.
The cause of the complaint made in the said report is
that the house is built upon a site of insufficient size.
The remedy is to pull down the said house and construct
it of smaller dimensions.
In my opinion it is necessary to demolish the said
house in order to remove the complaint contained in the
said report of the Medical Officer of Health.
I am, Gentlemen,
Your obedient servant,
(Signed) JNO. M. KNIGHT,
An Engineer appointed to report on the said
premises in accordance with the said Act.
Vestry of the Hamlet of Mile End Old Town.
