In 1881 the Vestry and the Parochial Officers having for
some time felt that if they could not reduce the amount of the
rates, they might, perhaps, give the ratepayers some relief by
making the rates of a more equal nature, the Vestry determined,
as an experiment, to make a half-yearly Call for the amounts they
require, instead of a quarterly one. The Vestry had every belief
that this would greatly assist the Parochial Officers in equalizing
the rates, as they would thereby get cognizance of all that would
be required during the six months, and could make arrangements
accordingly.
The system was tried for twelve months, and having been
found to work well, the Vestry have resolved to adopt it in future.
