The Committee having now carried out the matters referred to them
consider that they cannot do otherwise than shortly recapitulate what
has taken place.
In the year 1877, the prices asked by the Contractors for supplying
horses, carts, and drivers, and for the Removal of Dust, &c., had
increased so enormously, that the Vestry deemed it advisable to consider
whether the Vestry itself could not, in the interest of the ratepayers,
both as regards cost and efficiency, beneficially undertake the carrying
out such works.
