Sanitary Inspection of the District.
The ultimate object of sanitary inspection is to
promote the health of the inhabitants of the district and
to lower the death-rate.
The duties of a sanitary inspector are of a very
varied character but are mainly in connection with housing,
drainage, inspection of food, food premises, workshops,
and work-places, and other places where work is
done for profit. The inspection of factories is principally
the duty of inspectors appointed by the Home Office, but
local authorities have also certain functions in factories
which are carried out in co-operation with the Factory
inspector.
During 1932 in order to make the system of inspection
more uniform for the borough as a whole a new
system of records was inaugurated for the inspections
of factories, workshops, workplaces, outworkers'
premises, food shops, restaurants and dining rooms,
bakehouses, milk shops and dairies and street traders'
premises.
