Town Hall,
Fulham, S.W.
To the Mayor, Aldermen and Councillors of the
Metropolitan Borough of Fulham.
Sir, Ladies and Gentlemen,
I have the honour to submit my twenty-ninth Annual
Report on the vital statistics and the conditions affecting
the health of the borough in the year 1921.
Population.—The Census of 1921, originally planned
for the 24th April, was unavoidably postponed till the
19th June.
The population of the borough as enumerated on that
day was 157,944, males 73,312 and females 84,632.
The Registrar-General has pointed out that although
the date of the census avoided the recognised programme
of industrial holidays, some holiday movement was, largely
owing to the abnormally fine weather, already then in
progress, and consequently it has been deemed necessary
for statistical purposes to make an adjustment by
measuring the extent of the non-resident population in
certain areas and by effecting its redistribution throughout
the country. After making this by means of the
best data available the Registrar-General has estimated
the mid-yearly population of the borough for 1921 to be
159,400 and on this figure the statistics in this report
are based.
Increase of Population.— The following tables shows
the increase of the population since 1851:—
