From the above tables information may be obtained as to
the amount of overcrowding which exists in the Borough, for
although as has been pointed out, the number of rooms and
occupants is not in itself an absolutely sure guide because rooms
differ largely from each other in size, still, we know that the
rooms in tenements with less than five rooms are not of large
size and that ordinary tenements which have more than two
occupants per room must be considered overcrowded, and we are
able to compare the condition of the population at the present
time with regard to overcrowding with that existing in 1891.
The following table gives the number of overcrowded
tenements of each kind in 1891 and 1901, and also the number
overcrowded out of every hundred families or separate occupiers
in each kind of tenement.
