Catchpits to Ventilators.— That all ventilators be provided
with an arrangement to prevent dirt passing through them into
the sewers.
Flushing Tanks, &c.-That flushing tanks, shafts with fires
in them, or connected with factory shafts, shafts with cowls on
top, and special deodorizers can be used with great benefit in
special cases, and that such special cases be dealt with indi
vidually as they arise,
The above recommendations have been repeated from time to
time, some hundreds of new ventilators have been fixed, special
attention has been given to cleansing and flushing, and of course all
sewers constructed during the last six years, about 10 miles in length,
have been constructed on these lines. In the third special report
of the Medical Officer of Health he states that the sewers in the
District, constructed during recent years, "are all that can be desired."

The following sewers require ventilators with Manhole and
flushing tank combined at the dead ends. I therefore recommed
the following work to be carried out.
These manholes will cost about £1 per foot in depth.
