The Clerk of the Council.
Agricultural Produce. (Grading and Marking) Act, 1928,
Merchandise Marks Act, 1926.
The Council authorised Food and Drugs Inspector G. T.
Dewey and Food Inspector E. F. Nash to act on their behalf,
in carrying out the provisions of these Acts.
Maternity Ward Accommodation.
The Agreement between the Council and the Board of
Guardians under which the latter provide and set aside in the
St. Giles Hospital, Brunswick Square, two six-bedded special
wards, known as the Camberwell Borough Council Maternity
Ward, expired on October 31st, 1929.
Under this Agreement the Council paid a rental of £1,750
per annum in respect of the accommodation provided, and the
Guardians, in addition, provided dental treatment other than
the provision of dentures.
The arrangement with the Guardians, which had been in
operation since November, 1st, 1926, had proved very satisfactory,
and the Council accordingly decided to extend this agreement
for a further period of twelve months from the date of expiry,
subject to the Ministry of Health agreeing to refund to the
Council one-half of the proposed total expenditure.
Maternal Mortality.
In April, 1929, the Council received the approval of the
Ministry of Health to the temporary appointment by the Council
of an Obstetric Consultant to assist in the conduct of Maternal
Mortality inquiries for the Ministry of Health.
