shell with the word "Chilled" or the words "Cold Stored,"
and in the latter case with the word "Sterilized," the letters
being in each case not less than 1/16-inch in height and the word
or words enclosed in a circle of not less than ½-inch diameter.
This part of the Regulations came into operation after the
28th day of February, 1929.
Premises used for the purposes of cold or chemical storage
of eggs are registered by the Local Authority.

PREVALENCE OF AND CONTROL OYER INFECTIOUS
DISEASES.
The total number of infectious diseases, excluding tuberculosis,
notified during the year was 2,307, as compared with 2,103
in 1928. This increase was due to the prevalence of smallpox and
an unusually large number of cases of scarlet fever. A table
showing the notifications received for each disease and the age
distributions will be found on pages 72—73.
Smallpox.
During the year 119 cases of smallpox occurred at 51 premises
in the Borough, and the number of families affected was 62. The
disease was extremely mild in nature, with almost a total absence
of complications and sequelæ.
