Midlives and Maternity Homes Acts, 1902-26.
The London County Council provided information that 31
midwives residing in the Borough of Camberwell gave notice of
their intention to practise during the year 1929.
Public Mortuary.
As the result of a communication from H.M. Coroner for
South London inviting the attention of this Council to the existing
facilities at the mortuary and post-mortem room attached to
the Coroner's Court in St. George's Road, Peckham, the matters
referred to were fully considered by the Council, who authorised
specified alterations and the provision of modern equipment to
meet the requirements of the work carried out at the mortuary.
The work, which included internal structural alterations, new
fittings, and the provision of additional instruments, was carried
out at a cost of £510. H.M. Coroner, in a letter subsequently
addressed to the Council, paid tribute to the admirable manner in
which the suggestions made for remodelling the post-mortem room
attached to the Court had been carried out, and stated that the
room with its fittings as it now exists is a credit to the Borough
and might well serve as a model elsewhere in the County of
London. A monthly summary of the number of bodies received
at the Public Mortuary during the year is set out in the following
