"That the successful introduction and adoption of the
Free Libraries Act in the Parish was mainly due
to Mr. George Livesey's handsome offer and subsequent
gift of a freehold site and building, and
this Vestry feels assured that neither the present
nor future parishioners will ever cease to remember
with gratitude, the public-spirited generosity
which placed the Livesey Public Library for
ever at the disposal of Camberwell Ratepayers, as
a means of recreation and intellectual advancement,
and for the furtherance of the social wellbeing
of the people of Camberwell."
The address was engrossed on vellum, the seal of the
Vestry affixed, and it was presented to Mr. George Livesey,
at a Meeting of the Vestry on the 25th May, 18192. The
Chairman of the Commissioners made the presentation,
he being the Chairman appointed by the Vestry to preside
at that Meeting.
A copy of the Audited Accounts of the Commissioners
for the year ending 25th March, 1892, is submitted
herewith.
Chief
Librarians
Report.
Throughout the year there has been a
growing public interest in the Libraries, which
is clearly evidenced by the crowded attendances at the
reading-rooms and the large issues of book for homereading
from the respective lending libraries.
