Table IV. gives the number of births and deaths that
occurred in the whole of London, and in each of its five
groups of districts during the year 1890, together with the
birth-rates and death-rates, calculated on the populations, as
estimated for the middle of 1890, on the assumption that
the rates of increase which prevailed from 1871 to 1881
have been maintained since. It is needless however to say,
that all these estimates have been proved by the recent
Census returns to be more or less inaccurate:—
