At the request of Mr. Livesey we thought it desirable
to view the site in Old Kent Road, presented by him for
the purpose of a Public Library, before any steps had been
taken in the building of this Library ; and he expressed his
desire for the Commissioners to select an Architect.
Ultimately, Mr. Whellock, of Camberwell, was selected, and
sent in designs which were submitted to us, and which
were after various suggestions adopted. This Library is now
in course of erection, and it is hoped that in a few months it
will be open for the use and benefit of the Parishioners.
We have been engaged in the consideration of other
sites, and negotiating for the purchase of land and premises
in suitable positions, but we have nothing definite at
present to report.
We trust that without undue delay the Ratepayers
will be in possession of Libraries throughout the Parish, in
fulfilment of the charge entrusted to us by the Vestry.
Given under our Seal.
