Upon this report it was moved by Mr. Winyard:—
That this Vestry hereby approve of the Commissioners
of Public Baths and Wash-houses purchasing
the land cleared of the buildings known as the Birkbeck
Schools situate in Willow brook Road, Peckham
and in pursuance of the Act 9 and 10 Vic., chap. 74,
'An Act to encourage the establishment of Baths and
Wash-houses,' do sanction the Commissioners with the
approval of the Local Government Board borrowing
the sum of £18,000 to be paid by 30 yearly instalments
with interest thereon, to be secured by the rates,
for the relief of the poor of the Parish."
This motion was negatived by the Vestry.
In December last three Commissioners, Messrs. E. C.
Davis, Dowton and Turney, retired in accordance with the
provisions of the Baths and Wash-houses Act, and upon an
election being held by the Vestry, Messrs. Turney, Relph
and Wallace were appointed Commissioners in their stead.
