quantity 16,926 loads only were taken to the Wharf
to be barged away.
The dust barging has been carried out by Messrs.
Smeed, Dean, & Co., at the rate of 2s. 6d. per dust-cart
load, the contract for which expires at Midsummer-day*
1887. The Vestry has entered into a new contract for
this work with the same firm for the twelvemonth from
Midsummer-day, 1887, to Midsummer-day, 1888, at the
rate of 3s. 0d. per dust-cart load.
This increase in the cost of dust removal has Engaged
the attention of the Sewers and Sanitary Committee, and a
special sub-committee has been investigating the various
systems in operation in other Parishes and Districts for the
disposal of, and also as to cremating the dust and house
refuse by " Destructors," &c., &c.; and the following
Report, embodying an epitome of the various Reports, by
your Surveyor, derived from valuable information collected
from Vestries and District Boards which have adopted
these various systems, was presented to the Vestry on the
2nd of March last:—

"Vestry of St. Giles, Camberwell.
"REPORT
Of the Sewers and Sanitary Committee, re ' Destructors' for
burning the Dust and House Refuse of the Parish.
"Your Committee have given this subject very earnest.
consideration since it was committed to their charge, and
have been pursuing enquiries and making investigations.
