THAT the said Bill has been introduced into Parliament
by the Metropolitan Board of Works to carry into
effect the offer of the Estates Governors of Dulwich
College to appropriate and give to that Board 72 acres of
land for the purpose of providing a Public Park which is
most eligibly situated for the use and enjoyment of the
inhabitants of South London.
THAT the said 72 acres of land are part of 1,200 acres
of freehold land possessed by the Governors of Dulwich
College, and which they have laid out for building purposes.
Houses have been and are now being extensively
erected thereon, while no part of the said land has been
hitherto laid out by the Governors for a Recreation
Ground or open space.

The population of your Petitioners' parish (which includes the Hamlet of Dulwich) and of the parishes of Lambeth, Newington, St. George the Martyr, St. Saviour, Southwark, and St. Olave, which comprise the greater part of South London, have increased during 10 years, from 1871 to 1881, as follows:—
