Your Committee notified in last year's Report that an
increase of cost in this department must be anticipated,
by reason of the necessity for the immediate barging away
of the Dust (as collected) from the depot specially provided
for that purpose at Glengall Road.
This work has been contracted for and all arrangements
made, necessary for the complete and speedy removal
of this material, and which has been found satisfactory
in its operation, but such arrangements have resulted
in an increase of expenditure in this department against
that of last year which was an average cost of 3s. 6d. per
load of collection and removal, after allowing for a portion
sold to Brick-makers, &c. Such sale being now at an end
and the whole collection having to be barged away at a
cost of about 2s. per load, results in the present cost
averaging 3s. 9d. per load, as against the above quoted
last year's cost of 8s. 6d.
