Act, 1874, to be in force in each of the Parishes
and Districts in the Metropolis in which those provisions
are not now in operation."
But it is hardly necessary for me to remark
that the enactments referred to in the Sanitary Act,
1866, have been in force and in use in the Parish of
Camberwell for many years, and were still in force
and in use when this letter was received, and that
consequently the action of the Local Government
Board, so far as our Parish is concerned, is a work
of supererogation, and of no effect. It is strange,
therefore, that the Local Government Board should
have chosen Camberwell on which to bestow their
care and advice, and have overlooked many parishes
which have never, even up to the present moment,
made any attempt whatever to obtain powers under
the Act.
