singularly healthy during the year which has just
elapsed; and further that, as usual, Dulwich is the
most healthy district, and Camberwell the next,
while Peckham and St. George's, which are the least
healthy, have as nearly as possible the same
mortuary rate.
With one exception, there is not much to call
for special comment in the mortuary returns for the
year, either as regards the ages at which deaths
occurred, the seasonal distribution of deaths, or the
mortality of particular diseases. An examination
of Table III. will show, the numbers of deaths at
different ages; the numbers of deaths from various
important specified diseases; the relative prevalence
of different diseases at different times of the year;
and the number of deaths due to each of these
diseases in the several districts of the Parish.
Further, Table VIII. shows the number of deaths
due to the several zymotic diseases year by year from
1856 onwards; and Table IX. shows the mortality
from the same diseases quarter by quarter for the
last six years.
In contrasting the mortality of successive years
(as shown in these Tables) it must be recollected
