occasionally two Inspectors being devoted to the duty of
looking after such cases, and of seeing to the efficient
performance of disinfection. Lastly, it may be observed
that considerable differences, which may be noticed in
the details of the works executed in different years have
been determined by varying conditions of the Parish.
Thus for some years open ditches and cesspools
abounded. But these were gradually abolished, and the
need for supplying properly constructed water-closets,
with a proper supply of water, became more and more
forced upon us. It is only since 1871 that we have
erected a disinfecting machine, and that the disinfection
of bedding and clothing has been carried out by
the Vestry.
