an annual increment for Dulwich of 89 per 1000,
for Camberwell proper of 39 per 1000, for Peckham
of 41 per 1000, and for St. George's of 52 per 1000.
Assuming that these several rates of increase have
been maintained to the middle of 1880, the population
of the entire Parish would have amounted at
that time to about 168991, including in Dulwich a
population of 8895, in Camberwell a population of
44561, in Peckham a population of 61282, and in
St George's a population of 54253.
2. In the year 1871 when the population was
accurately ascertained, the birth-rate of Dulwich
was 22 per 1000, that of Camberwell 35 per 1000,
and that of Peckham and St. George's 36.5 per 1000;
in other words every 22 births in Dulwich represented
1000 persons, every 35 in Camberwell represented
1000, and every 36.5 in the other districts
represented the same number. On the assumption
that these figures still represent the respective birthrates
of the different sub-districts, we may estimate
that the 82 births in Dulwich in 1880 occurred in a
population of 3727; that the 1999 births in Camberwell
occurred in a population of 57114; that the
2670 births in Peckham occurred in a population of
73157; that the 1896 births in St. George's occurred
