MEDICAL OFFICER'S
ANNUAL REPORT.
G ENTLEMEN,
The year 1880 was a healthy year, and,
apart from this fact, presented few features of sanitary
interest. The Registrar-General, in his Annual
, Summary, states that the mortality of London was in
the proportion of 22.2 deaths to each 1000 inhabitants,
and that there have been only 5 years during the last
40, namely, 1850, 1856, 1872, 1876, and 1877, in
which so low a mortality was recorded. He points
out, also, that the mortality varied, as it always has
varied, in the 5 groups of districts, into which London
is divided: that in the Western districts the mortality
per 1000 was 19.9; in the Northern districts 21.2;
in the Central districts 23.2; in the Eastern districts
24.3; and in the Southern districts (which include
Camberwell) 22.8.
