four were passed as being on the borders of prosecution.
These milks, with five per cent of added
water, are in reality adulterated far beyond, but they
can only be calculated on the standard of nine per
cent, solids not fat.
Some of the milks sold in Camberwell are of
such excellent quality, as Nos. 108, 109, 127, 134,
142, 143, 145, and 147, that they are worthy of special
mention; others, as 107, 111, 114, and 148, also as
proving the correctness of our standards.
Three Breads have been examined and found
good.
The Butters, five in number, have passed the
standard of specific gravity. No. 157 was suspicious
and contained bundles of radiating needles. As the
percentage, however, was small, and the specific
oravitv within the limits of Somerset House, T could
not give a certificate.
Three varieties of Pickles were examined and
were found free from metallic contaminations. Sulphuric
acid, which used to be the common admixture
to vinegar, is now scarcely ever to be met with.
