Besides the Fables numbered I. and II.,
showing the statistical facts with regard to the births
and deaths occurring in the Parish during the year
1877, I have appended, as I did last year, two other
Tables,—one (Table V.) showing the prevalence of
zymotic diseases, quarter by quarter, for the last seven
years; the other ( Fable VI.) showing the prevalence
of the same disease., year by year, from 1856, inclusive.
A tabular statement (Table VII) is appended
as usual, in which are set forth in detail the sanitary
works which have been accomplished under the
immediate direction of the Inspectors of Nuisances.
The year to which this Table applies is not the same
as that to which the mortuary Returns relate; for
it begins with the 26th March, 1877, and ends with
the 25th March, 1878. It is also necessary to explain
that although five Inspectors' names appear in the
Table, our regular number is four only. Gedge,
who was appointed temporarily in 1876, continued
to act until early in July, 1877, when he was
replaced by Stevenson; Gedge's work, therefore,
was limited to the first four months of the year,
Stevenson's extended over the remaining eight. Again,
