macadamised surface. I am aware it will not be
advisable to anticipate this Work in its entirety, but, in
order to guide the Committee, I may report that, in
the principal thoroughfares there are required about
200 of these pitched crossings, which I estimate at a
cost of about £4,000. These can be executed progressively,
and as may be decided upon according as
the funds of the Yestry will admit, and in such order
as may be deemed advisable as to urgency.
There can be no question that whenever this
work is done it will be found to economise the constantly
recurring cost of repairs to these unpaved
crossings, and will, at the same time, give much
satisfaction to the Ratepayers, as well as the Public
at large.
Tramway Margins.

I next desire to draw your attention to the
desirability of Paving the margins between the
tramways and the footway kerbs, more especially in
the narrow portions of the Main thoroughfares of
this Parish, in which the macadam spaces or strips
on either side of the Tram-road do not exceed 8 to 9
feet in width, and which renders it very difficult and
costly to preserve the proper level of the macadam
in connection with the pitched margins, next to
and outside the tramway rails, and which cause
