The foregoing is the Return asked for by the
Metropolitan Board of Works, " with a view to shew
“ the Legislature and the Government in a short "
" and Summary form, the general results of the "
" Action of the Local Authorities, constituted under "
" the Act of 1855, as exhibited in the improved
" condition of the various districts." This Return
includes "all works executed from 1st January, "
" 1856, to 25th March, 1874."
It is thought to be a favourable opportunity to
shew-(although in a summary manner), somewhat
more in detail, the Amount of Work which has been
carried out between the above dates ; each Item oi
the Return is therefore referred to, thus :—
