by 74, and amounted respectively to 1098 and 781:
in Peckham the births were more by 184, the deaths
less by 76, and amounted respectively to 1710 and
819 : and in St. George's the births were more by
115, the deaths less by 42, and amounted respectively
to 1365 and 668.
But of the 781 deaths assigned to the subdistrict
of Camberwell, 138 occurred in the workhouse

deaths; which, in making a comparative estimate

the former method, with the following results :—
Estimated Deaths in Dulwich in 1872 54 + 6 = 60
„ „ Camberwell „ 781—236 + 62 = 607
,, „ Peckham „ 819 + 93 = 912
„ „ St. George's „ 661 + 75 = 743
Now the population of Dulwich increased
between 1861 and 1871 at the rate of 8.9 per cent.
per annum; that of Camberwell at the rate of 3.91;
that of Peckham at the rate of 4.06; and that of
St. George's at the rate of 5.23. We are justified,
