persons erected on land at the rear of the Durham Arms
publio house.
Wellington
Place.
The pipe sewer has been lowered and extended, half
the cost being borne by the owner of the premises
which have been rebuilt.
Palmer's
Road.
A new urinal for three persons has been erected at
Palmer's Road, the work being carried out by Messrs.
Jennings, of Lambeth.
Manholes.
With regard to the pipe sowers generally, it is very
desirable that the means of access for the purpose of
examination and cleansing should be largely increased
by the construction of suitable manholes. At present
there are numerous pipe sewers without any provision
for examination or cleansing, and it is impossible to
ascertain their condition until a stoppage occurs, and
then it is necessary to open up the roadway and clean
out the sewer at great expense and inconvenience.
Much of this might be obviated by the construction of
suitable manholes, and it would be true economy to do
this as quickly as possible.
House
Drainage, &c.
During the year applications have been made and
plans submitted and considered by the Works Committee
for the drainage of—
128 Old Houses.
81 New Houses.
6 Additions.
24 Workshops and Warehouses.
1 New Hospital (additions to Yictoria Park Hospital).
1 Stable.
2 Mills.
13 Forecourts to House.
The portions of the drains under the public highways
and the connections with the sewers are in all cases made
by the workmen of the Yestry, at the cost of the
applicants.
