Analytical Laboratory,
Vestry Hall, Paddington Green, W
April 25th, 1891.
To the Vestry of the Parish of St. Matthew, Bethnal Green.
Chairman and Gentlemen,
Now that the last prosecution for adulteration during the
quarter ending March 25th, 1891, is concluded, I am able to present
you my report for that quarter.
A total of 14 samples of food, all of them Milk samples, was
submitted to me for analysis. Of these, 5 proved to be adulterated
by the addition of from 5 to 18 per cent. of water. In the case
where only 5 per cent. of water had been added the vendor was
cautioned not to repeat the offence; in the other cases prosecutions
were undertaken, and successfully conductod by your Inspectors, and
fines ranging from £1 to £2 wore imposed. A prosecution, that of
the vendor of Milk No. 3/13, that had been adjourned from the previous
quarter, was satisfactorily concluded this quarter. It was the vendor
of this sample who was referred to in my last report as being
"prepared to plead guilty," and not the vendor of sample No. 3/11.
A total of £7 10s. was ordered to bo paid into the Vestry's
account for fines.
None of the samples call for any special remark.
I remain,
Your obedient Servant,
ALF. W. STOKES, F.C.S., F.I.C.,
Public Analyst.
