After Presland left, but before his trial came on, complaints were
made by the inhabitants of Peel Grove that a person of the name
of Davis had set up another show thorn, with seven caravans, trapeze,
round-a-bouts, switchback railway, swings, and steam organ. The
Clerk wrote to Davis, and was directed to take steps to enforce
removal or closing of the show, but the show was at once closed and
the plant removed.
Chambord Street.
In November, a show was opened on the vacant ground in this
street. It was ascertained the ground had been let by the owner
to a Mr. Youlton for the purpose of a show; but he had agreed to
conduct the business so that it should not bo a nuisance to the
neighbourhood, and to comply with the regulations of the London
County Council and the Sanitary Authorities. The place was
visited by the Sanitary Inspector, and by direction of the Sanitary
Committee notices requiring the provision of proper accommodation
were served by the Inspector. The Clerk was empowered to take
proceedings, and to confer with the Works Committee. Mr.
Youlton came before the Committee, and said the show was being
and would be carried on so as not to be a nuisance or annoyance,
and without any noisy music. The place was frequently visited
afterwards, but no complaints wore made by persons in the neighbourhood.
From the severity of the weather or want of success
the show did not long continue, and the ground on whioh it was,
has since been let for building.
