Out of the 380 Summonses issued, 211 were withdrawn, as the
work was completed before the day of hearing; but 1G9 orders of
abatement, with costs, were made by the various Magistrates
sitting at Worship Street. In 28 instances these orders were
disobeyed, and Summonses were issued for the recovery of penalties.

PERIODICAL INSPECTIONS.
The Cowhouses, Slaughterhouses, Bakehouses and Fish-curing
premises have been kept under constant supervision, and are for
the most part in a fairly good condition. It was not necessary to
oppose any of the licenses before the London County Council.
SANITARY STAFF.
It would bo impossible for mo to fully explain all that is done
iu the Sanitary Department, with a view to prevent the spread of
infectious disease and to obtain the removal of nuisances. The
