MEDICAL OFFICER OF HEALTH.
The Local Government Board issued, under the Local Government
Act, 1888, a General Order (Metropolis) Regulations as to
Medical Officers of Health, with reference to the appointment of
Medical Officers under the Act of 1888. By that Act it is provided
that when a Medical Officer is appointed under that Act half of his
salary shall be paid by the County Council.
To obtain the benefit offered it was necessary the Medical Offioer
should be re-appointed, with the sanction of the Local Government
Board, and when so re-appointed would become subject to the
control in several respects of the Local Government Board. On
the order being received from the Local Government Board, it was
referred for consideration and Report to a Special Committee,
consisting of the Works and Sanitary Committees.
A Conference on the Local Government Board Regulations was
convened by the Vestry of Camber well. The Vestry appointed
three delegates to attend the Conference. The resolutions passed
at the Conference were referred to the Sanitary Committee, who
recommended the adoption by the Vestry of the resolution passed
at the Conference :—"That pending further legislation upon the
subject, it is not desirable at present to alter in any way the
relationship between the Medical Officer of Health and the Local
Autherity, and that therefore no action be taken upon the order of the
Local Government Board ;" and the recommendation was adopted.
