SEWERS.
In proceeding to lay the new 18-inch sewer in Spicer Street,
mentioned in the last report, it appeared advisable to lay it at a two
feet lower level than at first proposed. A new 18-inch pipe sewer has
been laid in Satchwell Rents. Tenders were invited, and that of
Mr. Finch, for £162 10s., was accepted. The Vestry have decided
to lay a new 18-inch pipe sewer along Pollard Row, to the main sewer
in Bethnal Green Road; but suggestions as to connecting the new
sewer with the Metropolitan Board's sewer in Old Bethnal Green Road
are under consideration by the officers of that Board. The object is
to prevent the reflux from sewers, which sometimes arises in Barnet
Grove and other places, from the Board's sewer in Old Bethnal Green
Road being overcharged.
The Vestry have also decided to lay a new 12-inch pipe sewer in Knottisford
Street, to communicate with a new 18-inch pipe sewer to be laid in
Morpeth Street, which is to discharge into the sewer in Green Street.
