A memorial by the Vstry urging theMetropolitan Board to undertake
the wideing of Green street as a metropolitan improvement was
prepared, and also a plan (to accompany the memorial), shewing the
widths of the street at the various parts, and a copy of the plan was
furnished to each member of the Metropolitan Board. A deputation
from the Vestry attended to present the memorial and to support the
prayer of it; and at the same time a deputation from the ratepayers
attended to ask that the proposed widening should be undertaken by
the Board as suggested by the memorial. Ultimately the Metropolitan
Board determined to apply to Parliament for powers to widen the street
from the western end to Globe road, and have introduced a Bill into
Parliament accordingly.
By the same Bill they seek powers to buy the house in Club row at
the eastern end of little York street, and some ground in the rear, for
the purpose of widening that street and making it quite open at the
eastern end instead of merely an objectionable narrow passage as
at present.
The Metropolitan Board of Works have acceded to the application
of the Vestry to contribute a moiety of the purchase-money of the
ground required for opening Hollybush gardens into Jude street.
Difficulties have arisen as to some of the provisions in the draft
agreoment for sale, but they are now removed.
