As to the mode in which application is to he made for sanction to establish anew
the business of a Slaughterer of Cattle.
22.—Any person who shall make application to the Board for sanction to establish
anew the business of a Slaughterer of Cattle within the jurisdiction of the
Metropolitan Board of Works shall furnish with such application a plan of
the premises and sections of the building in which it is proposed to carry on
such business, drawn to a scale of a quarter of an inch to the foot, and
shewing the provision made, or proposed to be made, for the drainage,
lighting, ventilation, and water supply of the same; and shall also furnish
a key plan of the locality, shewing the buildings and streets within 100
yards of the premises, drawn to a scale of five feet to the mile.
Now you will see that in the future the granting of licenses for
slaughter houses will rest with the Metropolitan Board of Works, whose
Inspector will visit and do what our staff has ordinarilly done ; but this
will not take from us the necessity of keeping them under supervision to
see they are kept clean, and that no nuisance arises.
REPORT AS TO STORAGE OF PETROLEUM.
To tee Sanitary Committee :
Gentlemen,—In accordance with your wish, I have to report
upon the storage of Petroleum in this Parish.
Since the late unfortunate explosion on the Regent's Canal, much
anxiety has been felt upon the subject, and various rumours have been set
afloat respecting the matter.
The premises where the storage takes place is close to Twig Folly
Bridge, and abut upon the Regent's Canal. They were formerly occupied
by Mr. Palmer, Candle Manufacturer, and are known as Palmer's "Wharf.
They are now in the occupation of Messis. Ingall & Phillips, "Wharfingers,
of 5, Jeffries Square, St. Mary Axe.
The premises have an eastern frontage abutting the Regent's Canal of
652 feet; a western frontage abutting the Cemetery of the same measurement;
a northern frontage abutting (Jreen Street of 250 feet; and a
southern frontage abutting the Great Eastern Railway of 330 feet: this
gives a superficial area of nearly acres.
