QUEEN ADELAIDE'S DISPENSARY.
The following is the Medical Report of the Charity for the year ending
December 31st, 1874:—
Now Patients have been admitted, who have had Advice and Medicine, Gratis,
at the Dispensary, or at their own homes 2,991
Have been visited at their own homes 647
Have been discharged, Cured, or not returned their letters 1,215
Ditto Relieved 1,235
Have died 57
Were still under Medical treatment in the last week in December, 1874 490
The total number of Patients' attendances during 1874 having been 3,109
COW HOUSES.
These remain in much the same condition as heretofore; they have
been frequently visited and kept generally in good order; the few cases
where any defects were found, the licenses were opposed conditionally,
and by so doing the owners had the necessary work performed with
alacrity.
The new applications were from Thomas W. James for Olive Branch
Yard, Hackney "Road, as a laybye or quarantine for newly-bought
cows, to see if they turned out healthy, before putting them into his
other shed at the Oval, Hackney Road. John Griffiths, Temple Street,
Hackney Road; William Morgan, 3, Hassard Street, Hackney Road;
Thomas Wright, Bridge Wharf, Old Eord Road; all these were viewed
by the Sanitary Committee and staff; no opposition was given to either,
and in three cases the licenses were at once granted, but in the case of
William Morgan a trade combination took place and he was opposed, and
the hearing was allowed to stand over to the adjourned sitting, when it
was shewn that the building, grain, and dung pits were constructed
upon the best principles as to drainage and ventilation, so that the
justices, after hearing counsel on both sides, granted the license. I may
here state that the powers of the Yestry as regards the licensing of cow
houses, are not at all affected by the recent enactions respecting slaughter
houses.
