having been, during this time, little emigration from, or immigration
into, the Parish, we may fairly estimate our population, in round numbers,
at 122,000.
Our increase has been at the rate of 40 per 1000—that is, 1 person out
of every 25 gave birth to a living, child. Still-born children are not
required to be registered, and therefore are not enumerated.
The annual birth rate for the whole of the Metropolis was 34.5 per
1000, or 1 child to every 29 persons living, so that our rate is greatly
above the average birth rate for the whole of London ; and we still maintain
our rate of increase, though not quite so much as in the preceding
year, when the births in this Parish were at the rate of 43 4 per 10.00,
or 1 person in every 23.1 gave birth to a living child.
DEATHS.
The death rate for Bethnal Green during the year was 25 per 1000, or
1 person died of every 40 living—1 death in every 39 being from Zymotic
disease. The average of deaths for the whole of London during the same
period was at the rate of 247 per 1000, very slightly under that of this
District. In the preceding year our death rate was 24 per 1000—1 death
in every 41.5 living; 1 death in 4 being from Zymotic disease.
