opening of a new Health Centre built by the London Borough of Hackney. This
is the Clapton Park Health Centre set in the Clapton Park Redevelopment area and
serving an estimated population of 14,000. It will provide child health,
and ante-natal services with district nursing attachment.
He Inner London Executive Council Services provided are for two general
medical practitioners.
The situation at the end of the year in respect of the other proposed
health centres is as follows:-
Barton House
Work continued on this Centre and it is hoped that completion will be
some time in 1973.
Fountayne Road
Formal approval from the Department of Health and Social Security was
received in January, and the task of obtaining the necessary tenders was put
in hand immediately.
Hedgers Grove
Final approval by the Department of Health and Social Security having
been received it was anticipated that work would commence during the latter
part of the year.
Tresham Avenue Health Centre
Draft plans were submitted to the Department of Health and Social
Security during the autumn and negotiations continued with that Department
and with the Inner London Executive Council.
SURVEYS
During the year the department supplied information for the following
surveys:-
MRC Measles Vaccine Trial
MRC T.B. Vaccine Trial
Oxford Survey of Childhood Cancers
MRC Survey of Children's Speech
National Surveillance Programme of Congenital Rubella Defects
DHSS Survey of Virus Infections in Pregnancy and Infancy
British Births Child Study
Foundation Study of Infant Deaths
The last named survey covers the found London Boroughs of Camden, Islington,
Tower Hamlets and Hackney and is an attempt to determine the cause of
unexplained deaths of children under oneyear of age. Investigations involve
a visit by a medical officer and health visitor to the family concerned, and
this is undertaken bur a Principal Medical Officer from Camden Health Department.
