COMPREHENSIVE ASSESSMENT CENTRE
Further meetings were held during the year with representatives of
the Board of Governors of the Hospitals for Sick Children, the Inner London
Education Authority and the Social Services Department.
the object of the project is to meet the needs in terms of assessment
and treatment of both mentally and physically handicapped children and those
with a dual handicap. The design and functioning of the Centre anticipates
the planned integration of the Health Services in 1974.
It was decided to name the Centre the Donald Winnicott Paediatric
Assessment Centre' in the memory of Dr. winnicott who was a paediatrician
at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital from 1924 to 1936 and subsequently became
a child psychiatrist of international repute.
The Centre will be situated adjacent to the main hospital curtilage on
a site at the corner of Kay Street and Coate Street and will comprise a
psychiatric day hospital, an assessment unit and an audiology unit.
The Council has approved participation in the scheme in principle but
feels it is unable at the moment to make any contribution towards the
capital and non-staff running costs.
